Portable Report: Environmental Impact Report 2025

At Portable, sustainability is a core part of how we deliver meaningful public outcomes. This year’s report reflects the second year of our formal sustainability strategy and documents our continued efforts to cut emissions, rethink digital delivery, and embed environmental thinking into our work, operations, and culture.

What's inside

This year’s Environmental Impact Report shares how we’re evolving our sustainability approach across three key areas:

  • Sustainability and AI
We explore the tension between technological progress and environmental responsibility, particularly in AI. We’re one of the few organisations openly publishing AI model energy data and pushing for more transparency across the sector.
  • Measuring what matters
From emissions tracking to stakeholder engagement, we’ve matured our reporting practices, clarified metrics, and made progress toward our Net Zero by 2030 target. But we’re also honest about what’s hard, like Scope 3 data and defining meaningful accountability.
  • Investing in our workplace
We ran a sustainable office audit, launched a staff home improvements grant, and opened our Collingwood office to environmental organisations at reduced cost. These changes may seem small, but they’re part of a bigger shift in how we model low-impact systems.
“Sustainability is not just good policy—it’s smart, ethical, and essential business.” - Andrew Apostola, Portable CEO
